National University Competitor Analysis:

  • University of Phoenix: For-profit university specializing in online education, larger student body and broader program offerings than National University, but less prestigious reputation.
  • Southern New Hampshire University: Private, non-profit university with strong focus on online education, larger student body and higher tuition fees than National University, but higher reputation in business and education programs.
  • California State University: Public university system with 23 campuses across California, larger student body and broader program offerings than National University, but less flexibility in scheduling and program delivery.
  • Coursera: Online education platform offering free and paid courses from top universities and organizations, larger user base and highly flexible in course delivery and scheduling, but lacking in academic support and credentialing.
  • Udacity: Online education platform focused on technology and career development, strong reputation in tech industry and focus on practical skills development, but not as attractive to students seeking traditional higher education experience.

Most In-Demand Credentials:

Recommendations:

Analysis revealed certain gaps in key competitor’s credential programs. Therefore, I recommend developing programs and credentials for the following areas:

  • Healthcare: Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), Certified Healthcare Information Management Systems (CHIMS), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
  • Tech: Certified Instructional Designer.
  • Management: Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP).
  • Teaching: Certified Reading Specialist (CRS), Certified Instructional Designer.

Since some of these credentials are not offered by National University’s competitors, developing programs in these areas could give National University a competitive edge in the market. By offering programs that are in high demand and relevant to the current business landscape and industry trends, National University can attract more students and maintain its position as a leading online education provider.

Conclusion:

National University has several opportunities to maintain its position as a leading online education provider by expanding its program offerings in high-demand areas. Developing programs and credentials in healthcare, tech, management, and teaching, especially those not currently offered by competitors, can help National University attract more students and differentiate itself in a crowded market.

However, this proposal is just a starting point, and further analysis would be needed to evaluate trade-offs, return on investment, and other factors. National University should continue to monitor the business landscape and industry trends to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive in the rapidly changing world of online education. By doing so, National University can continue to meet the evolving needs of its students and provide high-quality education that leads to career success.
